Consultant Trainer Profile

Gerard read law with the University of London and graduated with honours. In his final year as a law student, he excelled in areas such as European Union Law, Conflict of Laws and Intellectual Property Law. He also did research on Law of Tort and Family Law.

He is currently teaching law in a private law college in Kuala Lumpur. Lecturing in areas such as Public (Constitutional) Law, Law of Tort, Conflict of Laws and European Union Law. He also handles academic matter in relation to the law programme.

In his first year teaching law, Gerard produced 100% distinction results for the subject of Conflicts of Law. He has consistently managed to produce good results in the very challenging University of London (External) Law Programme.

While law remains his main passion, he is also actively doing training for public listed and government linked companies (GLC). Gerard was recently conducting HR Training for a public listed company is Malaysia focusing in the area of Industrial Relations and Risk Management.

Gerard also trains corporations and organisations on Malaysian Labour Law. He prepares employers and employees for the requirements of legality in the working environment in Malaysia be it, the public or the private sector. He tries to simplify the employment legislation in Malaysia so that it everyone, not just lawyers will be able to understand their rights and protection as employers and employees.

Another area which Gerard indulges himself in the emerging area of Intellectual Property Law. Malaysia being a growing third world nation attracts investors from around the world and it is extremely important that Malaysian businesses and employers understand the scope of Trademark, Patents and Copyright protection legislation in Malaysia. Gerard trains senior management in multinational companies on how to handle problems in relation to design and inventions. He also conducts public workshop on this areas.

Besides legal training and consultancy, Gerard also conducts corporate training for public listed companies in Malaysia focusing on the area of soft skills. Considered the most complex of all intellectual functions, problem solving has been defined as higher-order cognitive process that requires the modulation and control of more routine or fundamental skills.

Another area that Gerard trains on is the area of mind mapping, A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks or other items linked to and arranged radially around a central key word or idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing.

Gerard considers training an important part of a fluid and trouble free organization. Corporate training ensures that the ongoing relationship between employer and employee is maximized to ensure better output.

Corporate training offers the opportunity to expand on the skills and talents first developed during the employees first years in employment. For companies, corporate training programs can help incoming team members adapt their college knowledge and life experiences to the specific needs and culture of a corporation.

Gerard strongly believes corporate training allows employees to enjoy significant professional development opportunities that do not interfere with the day-to-day operations of a business and that more companies rely on the skills of experienced corporate training specialists to bolster their bottom lines.

During his rare but much treasured free time, Gerard likes to read political and legal publications and occasionally play a round of golf. He is currently in negotiations with a local English daily to write monthly articles on legal problems facing the Malaysian public.
